In fact, Magento 2 should have been published long ago. The release plan published at MagentoImagine 2014 shows that the time will finally come in autumn 2015.

Late 2014
Developer beta phase:
Identifying and correcting conflicts with other programs or problems with certain hardware components before the program is released


2.0 DEV RC
March 2015
Developer release candidate: final test version of the software


2.0 Merchant Beta
Mid 2015
Merchant Beta: Shop operators can test and use this version, but errors cannot be ruled out.


2.0 Merchant GA
Mid/end of 2015
Merchant GA: General Availability (GA), the version has been released for practical use and is available on the Magento homepage.


2.0 Ongoing Releases
Early 2016
Errors and functions are corrected or integrated through updates.
