(SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Bruins will try to push their winning streak to a season-high six straight games on Saturday night when they play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Bruins have matched their longest winning streak of the season to assert themselves back into the playoff mix. Bostons postseason chances were starting to take a hit after a 5-6-5 mark through 16 games since the beginning of December, but the Bruins have picked up some key wins over some other playoff-contending teams like Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay over this win streak. Bostons latest victory came over the New York Rangers, a 3-0 win in a battle of the two current holders of the Easts wild card spots. Tuukka Rask made 30 saves for his second shutout of the season and 25th of his career. Tuukka was up to the task, Bruins head coach Claude Julien said. In my mind, he was our best player tonight. Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Loui Eriksson all scored and Torey Krug supplied two assists for the Bruins, who matched a five-game win streak accomplished from Oct. 30-Nov. 10. Boston hasnt won six straight since a 12-game tear from March 2-22, 2014. Krug has amassed seven assists over a five-game point streak. Forward David Pastrnak, the 25th overall pick of the 2014 draft, is expected to play in his 10th game of the season tonight, thus activating the first season of his entry-level contract. Pastrnak had posted consecutive two-goal games before going pointless versus the Rangers. While Pastrnak will be on the ice, forward Brad Marchand will miss this contest as he begins a two-game suspension for a slew-footing incident on New Yorks Derick Brassard in the second period on Thursday. Marchand, who was not penalized on the play, has 12 goals and 24 points in 42 games this season. The Bruins are 5-2-0 all-time at home versus the Blue Jackets and had won seven in a row against them before taking a 6-2 loss in Columbus on Dec. 27. Both Rask and backup Niklas Svedberg saw action in the game, with each netminder allowing three goals on 15 shots. Rask relieved Svedberg during the second period and is 4-1-0 versus Columbus with a 1.98 goals against average and .931 save percentage in six games (4 starts). Scott Hartnell scored twice for the Blue Jackets, Kevin Connauton had a goal and two assists, and Curtis McElhinney made 26 saves for the Blue Jackets. McElhinney is 1-2-0 with a 2.69 GAA and .914 save percentage in three games versus the Bruins and could start tonight after Sergei Bobrovsky got the call in last nights 2-1 setback to the Rangers. Bobrovsky made 24 saves, but New Yorks Henrik Lundqvist was even better with 35 stops. Hartnell had the lone goal in Columbus fourth setback in a row. We had our chances, Hartnell said. Lundqvist stood on his head at times. Ryan Johansen picked up an assist to extend his franchise-record point streak to 12 straight games, a span in which he has seven goals and seven assists. Still, Columbus is on its longest losing streak since a six-game slide from Nov. 18-29. The Engloish Premier League club, which has spent heavily this off-season and sold Gareth Bale, wasnt the only team to make it two-for-two in wins: Genk, Fiorentina, Eintracht Frankfurt, Rubin Kazan, Sevilla, Swansea, Salzburg, and Ludogorets Razgrad are also perfect. Also, Sergio Floccari capped a frenetic contest with a flourish of goals as the Lazio substitute scored late for the Italian side to draw 3-3 at Trabzonspor, while Wigan picked up its first ever European victory. Jermaine Defoe and Nacer Chadli scored first-half goals to pace Tottenham to a 2-0 win against Anji Makhachkala in near freezing temperatures on the outskirts of Moscow, with the conflict in Dagestan forcing the once money-laden club away from home. Tottenham manager Andres Villas-Boas rotated his squad and the strong performance showed how deep the Portuguese managers bench is, although it was left to old hand Defoe to steer the visitors with his 21st goal in European competitions in the 34th minute moving him within one goal of Martin Chivers club record. While Anzi showed some resilience, the fall from grace for the cash-strapped club was evident as Tottenham kept a second straight clean sheet. "The conditions were difficult but we had a great first half, where we created a lot, kept the ball well and deserved the lead," Villas-Boas said. "A win is what we wanted, and it gives us the opportunity in the next games against Sheriff to ensure qualification. That is extremely important for us." Valencia enjoyed its own trip to Russia, bouncing back from a blowout loss to Swansea with a 2-0 win at Kuban Krasnodar. Paco Alcacer could just about walk his 73rd-minute goal into the net after Kuban goalkeeper Aleksandr Belenov misjudged a clearance well outside the area.dddddddddddd Sofiane Feghouli also netted for the Spanish side to get back into the mix in Group A, which sees Swansea top after its 1-0 win over St-Gallen. Fiorentina also kept its place as one of the competition favourites after overcoming the absences of injured strikers Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi to win 2-1 at Dnipro in the Ukraine. Massimo Ambrosinis run was picked out by Borja Valero for the former AC Milan player to score the 73rd-minute winner for Fiorentina, which hung on after David Pizarro was sent off with four minutes to play. Of 24 games on Thursday, only seven home teams managed victory with eight visiting teams earning all three points. Bordeaux fell 2-1 to visiting Maccabi Tel Aviv to leave the French club in trouble with zero points. Lyon, meanwhile, did only a little better in drawing 1-1 against Guimaraes. Dimitris Salpingidis has scored many clutch goals for Greece, and the stocky striker did it for his club PAOK on Thursday when an injury-time goal cancelled out Jeffrey Gouweleeuws score in the 82nd as the Dutch club looked on course for three points. At Sevilla, Fallou Diagnes sending off in the 62nd led to Diego Perottis penalty score, and Sevilla held on to beat Freiburg 2-0 with Colombian striker Carlos Bacca adding the second in stoppage time. Sevillas second victory in the competition is twice as many as it has managed in seven league games this season. "This victory will allow us to gain some confidence and improve," Sevilla coach Unai Emery said. Wigans 3-1 victory over Slovenian champion Maribor also came on its first ever home game in Europe. PSV Eindhoven bounced back from a home loss to Bulgarian minnow Ludogorets Razgrad with a 2-0 win at Chornomorets Odesa. Ludogorets Razgrad continued its encouraging start with a 3-0 victory against Dinamo Zagreb in Group B.
